Giant Tree Hardscape
A giant tree style hardscape built by Jag Aquatics in our West Gosford workshop. A single twisted driftwood tree rises high above a large, rugged rock base, its branches reaching up and out like an ancient tree growing on a cliff. This one has been built ready for planting, for a client and for an in house setup.

About the build
Giant tree layouts are all about scale. The driftwood was chosen and joined so the trunk twists naturally as it climbs, then splits into branches that spread across the top of the tank. Underneath, a big rough rock base anchors the tree and gives it real weight, so it looks like it has been growing out of the stone for years.
With the hardscape finished, the next stage is planting. Mosses and epiphytes tied along the branches will build the canopy, while carpeting plants and small foreground plants soften the rocks below. Once grown in, the tree becomes the centrepiece of the whole aquarium.
