Dragon Stone River Hardscape
A dragon stone hardscape built by Jag Aquatics in our West Gosford workshop, designed around a single idea: a river cutting its way through a rugged, rocky valley. Rich red brown dragon stone rises in layered ridges on both sides of the tank, while a winding band of white gravel flows from the front glass all the way to the back, drawing the eye deep into the scene.

About the build
Every piece of dragon stone was chosen for its deep holes, sharp edges and weathered texture, then angled so the ridges lean in the same direction, like layers of rock that have been shaped by wind and water over thousands of years. The larger stones sit towards the back and sides to build height, while smaller pieces step down towards the river so the valley feels natural and balanced.
The white gravel river narrows as it travels back through the tank, a simple trick that adds a real sense of distance. Dark aqua soil fills the slopes on either side, ready to feed a lush carpet and plants that will soften the stone and turn the valley green. Set up in a crystal clear rimless tank under a slim LED light, the whole layout can be enjoyed from every angle.
